Aphro's 1st Bath

Geek's record everything. This is my girlfriend's cat's (Aphrodites, Aphro for short) first bath.

Smile gato.

Geeks and Their Burgers (Another Summerish Vlog)

When my friend's girlfriend came to California for the first time from Nebraska, we made her go to In-N-Out, which has this geek's seal of approval.

A little camera shy, she obliged her boyfriend's geeky friends, and shared the moment with the entire internet. Lol.

Sorry Ashley.

Podtech CEO to speak to social media meetup

Here's an update on the upcoming Third Thursday meetup I mentioned during yesterday's STEM meeting. Third Thursday focuses on the use of social media in marketing and PR.

The Topic: Social Media and the Pressroom of the Future
Speaker:
John Furrier, CEO of PodTech.net
Moderator:
Giovanni Rodriguez, Principal of HubbubPR
When/Where:
6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 17 in Palo Alto

The Blurb: With the arrival of social media, both media companies and businesses are rethinking the way they manage news-gathering and distribution. But how do businesses manage that well-known mainstay-- the "pressroom" at industry events and conferences? John Furrier, CEO of PodTech, will talk about how smart companies are reinventing the pressroom with state-of-the-art technologies, combined with social intelligence.

The Lowdown: Attendance is for this event limited by the size of the venue...and it's filling up fast. If you'd like to attend, please email me ASAP and I'll add you to the reservation list as my guest and fill you in on the locale. (Sorry, the group only makes that info available to members, and I want to respect their policy.)

Today's Meeting and other Goodies

First off: yes, I've got the sniffles. I'll be fine.

Second.

Still need help creating videos online? The people that brought us Democracy Player have created a pretty awesome site with tutorials for Macs, PCs and Linux. Check them out and tell me if they were helpful at all.

Third: don't forget to attend STEM's meeting today. Burke Shartsis of Axis Design Studios will be going over the basics of flash - a must have tool for future journalists looking for a leg up on the competition coming out of college.

STEM will be meeting today, as every Wednesday, at the Academic Success Center (formerly Clark Hall) at 4:30 PM in Room 116.

Bring a friend. See everyone there.

A little more on RSS

I am not an expert on RSS by any means. Most of what I know comes from trial and error. Of course, there is always Google for more help. Just search RSS or RSS sample. Here are a couple of Web sites on RSS that I used for our STEM meeting yesterday:

RSS Tutorial

Set Up a Simple Syndication Feed Using RSS

Also, Wikipedia is usually a good source.

I use Google's Reader to keep track of all of my feeds.

Here is information from Apple on how to do feeds for podcasts, including a sample feed.

I hope everyone has a great spring break!

An update on the vids: I was sick all last week, but I now have several tutorials on blogging and vlogging on que, uploading to Blip.tv.

STEM meeting today; WE GOT RECOGNIZED!

I just wanted to let everyone know that there will be a STEM meeting today at 4:30 PM in the Academic Success Center. Our room has been moved today because of a conflict in the scheduling. Instead of our normal room, we'll be meeting in a room just adjacent to 116. I'll be there early to show everyone where to go.

P.S. Some good news about the club - Jess told yesterday that she received a letter from the University, saying that STEM has been officially recognized by SJSU. Now that's cool.

STEM (SJSU Technology & Emerging Media

For those of you that don't know, I am VP of a new student organization on campus that is looking to educate students on new media. We're getting them to blog, vlog, cast every which way, tag, and generally be geekier. STEM is still in its infancy, and any attention we can get and hype we generate will only help promote greater respect for technology in education and the need to continuously evolve methodology. Please feel free to pass this vid around the internet and get people talking. And yes, that is Ze Frank doing that thang he does best.) -Drew

Hello World

This is the first post of STEM: SJSU Technology & Emerging Media.

Don't be disheartened if you haven't yet heard of this blog; I will be deleting it tomorrow afternoon and recreating it as a demonstration of how to set up a blog for the rest of the club.

Cheers,
Andrew Venegas (VP)
